The Southern Harvest Association Annual General Meeting was held this year on the 1st of August. The weather wheeled out a beautiful sunny winter day, perfect for our morning markets (complete with Morris dancers) then a convivial outdoor meeting.

The outgoing committee were pleased to report on a fruitful year for our farming and produce community despite the extreme adverse conditions that many have had to deal with.

The Southern Harvest Farmers Market has managed to (and continues to) function throughout the COVID19 crisis and ongoing pandemic. We are enormously grateful to the whole community for their support, encouragement and willingness to adhere to the ‘new way’ of functioning that is continually evolving.

Our Produce Box scheme is moving through its third year of operation and has proved to be vital to many producers and consumers during the pandemic. With so many larger food supply chains at risk and many markets shutting down temporarily and permanently, the box scheme has meant an ongoing conduit for local produce distribution.

We were actually somewhat overwhelmed initially with the increased demand for subscriptions and the increased hygiene and safety workload however, our producers and volunteers were up to the challenge and we eventually managed to find equilibrium, and are now able to start opening up spaces for people on the waiting list.
