Southern Harvest is planning a series of screenings of FAIR FOOD……The Movie, in the lead up to and during Fair Food Week this year. We will hold a screening on each of the days of Bungendore Harvest Festival, 27th and 28th of April, and then one each month till FFW (date yet to be set by AFSA).
“For far too long, we’ve taken our food and the people who produce, transform and distributed it for granted. This is perfectly understandable: our food system creates the appearance of abundance of food and much of it is cheap, in terms of the checkout price. But this seeming abundance rests on fragile foundations. Cracks are beginning to show. Many of our soils are eroded and degraded, and each year we lose thousands of hectares of our best farmland to the mining industry and suburban sprawl.
All over Australia, thousands of women and men are working for a better food and farming system. A fairer system, one that feeds all of us well and looks after the land, the farmers and the food workers.
They are Australia’s Fair Food Pioneers. Their stories need to be told, and shared as widely as possible.”
The initial screenings will be run as fund raisers for our produce box scheme storage facility. This scheme is providing opportunities for revenue steams to small local farmers and producers, with out extra work or fees, and amazing fresh local produce to consumers. The storage facility will allow us to continue into another year with more secure and safe spaces for the produce and the volunteers.
