Faces Behind Food -Prana Produce
Prana Produce
Prana Produce is a small family farm nestled on 20 acres just outside Braidwood, NSW, run by husband-and-wife team John and Christina, alongside their children, Kailash and Maya.
The name Prana comes from the yogic tradition, meaning the life force that flows through all living things. John and Christina met at Mangrove Yoga Ashram, where they developed a shared understanding that the food we eat, the products we use and the way we live can all influence our vitality and wellbeing. This philosophy continues to guide everything they do.
Their intention is simple: to grow things that bring life, nourishment and joy.
Their journey began in a small coastal unit, with a vegetable patch, a beehive tucked behind the water tank and a few bantam chooks. It was here they discovered that you don’t need a large backyard to grow your own food. At the time, Christina was teaching more than 20 yoga classes a week, while John was working as a chef, a career spanning 22 years. On their shared vision board was a dream of land, family and a life centred around real food.
In 2015, they made that dream a reality, moving to Braidwood, building their home by hand and beginning their journey into organic farming.
Family has always been at the heart of Prana Produce. Life has brought its share of beautiful moments and profound heartbreak, deepening their appreciation for what matters most: health, family, love and living with honesty, authenticity and heart. These values are woven into the way they farm, the way they raise their family and the way they connect with their community.
Today, Prana Produce is dedicated entirely to growing plants. From strong vegetable seedlings and fragrant herbs to hardy perennials, vibrant salvias and colourful annuals, their focus is on raising healthy, thriving plants that bring life and colour to local gardens. Grown on their farm from seed and cuttings, each plant is nurtured with care, with the hope of inspiring more people to grow their own food and create gardens full of life.
You can find Prana Produce plants at the Southern Harvest Community Store in Bungendore, Art and General in Braidwood, and a selection of independent stores throughout the region. John and Christina are also regulars at local markets, including Moruya Country Market on Saturdays and Southside Farmers Market at Canberra College on Sundays.
With John’s 22 years of experience as a chef, combined with his deep love of seasonal, nourishing food and a genuine passion for growing, he brings a unique appreciation for the journey from soil to plate.
Join John at the Supper Club table for an evening celebrating good food, seasonal ingredients and the connection between the earth, the food we share and the life we nurture.
