Description
Southern Harvest Annual Passata Day and Community Long Lunch
During the abundance of Summer and Autumn we often find ourselves with more tomatoes than we can handle! Southern Harvest freezes these little nuggets of sunshine so we can preserve them into passata – Italian tomato sauce – and distribute them through our Produce Box Scheme and member shop throughout the year.
We love to share this activity with our community: sharing the work and the pleasure of fresh pasta and delicious passata!
Guests can choose to attend the workshop, or lunch, or (ideally) BOTH!
This year Sam of Gardn Kitchn Witchn will be leading us. Sam has a tonne of experience in preserving the harvest for joyful and abundant use through the year.
The day will be hosted by Silver Wattle Function Centre on the banks of the beautiful Lake George. This venue has a big country kitchen and dining space, extensive vegetable and fruit gardens, and a location you wouldn’t believe unless you see it. Participants will also be treated to a guided tour around the gardens.
No experience is necessary to participate: all skill levels are welcome, whether you’re a master chef or someone who can’t boil an egg!
The long lunch will incorporate the flavours of the day, with fresh pasta, passata, cheese and local herbs and garlic sourced from our Southern Harvest Producers.
This is intended as a community event, where we can share knowledge, food, labour and a community lunch. Come prepared to get your hands dirty: wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes.
