A new Food Box Initiative is being started thanks to Canberra City Farm. It will be run from their site at Dairy Flat, near Fyshwick. They are currently looking for producers who would be interested in participating in the initiative – no washing or packaging of produce is required – the members will do all of this. You will know exactly how much is needed before harvesting, plus we would be happy to include wonky and slightly damaged fruit and vegetables. They would also be interested in gluts of produce for preserving. Canberra City Farm want to work with the farmers and with the seasons, and allow more people to do the same.
Please complete this survey to assist with planning.
There will be a pilot box and meeting on Sunday August 21st 12:30-3:30PM at the Dairy Road site to have a larger conversation about what is possible. There will be 10-20 boxes needing filling for this pilot. There is also interest in a showcase of other local producers (bread, cheese, meat, wine, honey etc).
Find out more about the pilot box program on Sunday 21 August.
The plan is to run the box scheme fortnightly for the first year, starting at the end of Spring/beginning of Summer and move to weekly in year two. It is likely to be run on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening, with produce being dropped off in the afternoon ready for washing and packing.
