Activity Program 17 – 19 July 2026
The weekend is there to get your hands dirty, indulge in local food and engage deeply with local producers.
We are thrilled to bring you a packed program of hands-on experiences, flavour-filled adventures and creative workshops across the Canberra region and surroundings this winter.
Food, Farm and Foraging: Join us for a Long Lunch and Farm Tour at Millpost Permaculture, a beautiful property just outside of Bungendore, where you will discover how permaculture principles come to life on a working farm. On Saturday and Sunday, head out to Elvesgate, Australia’s only certified biodynamic truffle farm, for an unforgettable truffle hunt followed by a decadent truffle feast.
Creative Workshops: Get hands-on with nature in a Basket Weaving Workshop and a Bracelet Weaving Workshop, both led by Kate from Wirimbirra and Kabu. For something a little more literary, join our Japanese Stab-Book-Binding Workshop paired with a Gin Tasting hosted by the team at Everyday Legacy Craft Distillery – a perfect blend of craft and spirit.
Urban Exploration: Take a guided Urban Garden Tour including Morning Coffee at Café Stepping Stone in Dickson, and discover how community gardens are transforming city living in Canberra.
Sip and Celebrate: Raise a glass at a Cocktail Masterclass with Ambrosia Distillery, where you will learn the art of the perfect pour. And Friday, Saturday and Sunday emerge yourself in “Love & Forgetting – Tales from a Young Mixer”, a cocktail Cabaret at the Ambrosia Lounge.
We will continue to add workshops and events as they are confirmed — check back in for more details soon!
Millpost Permaculture Long Lunch & Farm Tour
Join David Watson for a guided tour of Millpost Farm, one of the longest continually worked broad-scale permaculture properties, established in 1979.
Visitors will explore the productive vegetable gardens and diverse plantings surrounding the farm’s heritage-listed homestead dating from the 1870s, while learning how decades of permaculture design have shaped the landscape.
The tour includes a visit to the plant nursery, worm farms, compost toilets and a glasshouse built with a cob wall for thermal mass, showcasing practical and innovative approaches to sustainable living.
To provide visitors with a broader view of the farm, there will be a short walk ( 1 kilometre) to look more closely at the extensive tree planting that has transformed the property, incluDINg large stands of oaks, poplars and other deciduous trees, along with native shelter belts and wildlife corridors established through tube-stock planting, direct seeding and natural regeneration where stock have been excluded.
Millpost Farm focuses on building landscape resilience, sustainable productivity and improved water retention in the face of climate change and biodiversity loss. The farm’s main enterprise is the production of superfine merino wool, alongside milking cows and free-range chooks.
Tickets will include a hot lunch which will showcase Millpost mutton, prepared by Cassandra Simakoff-Ellims of Cork Street Cafe in Gundaroo.
(Vegetarians will be catered for)
