Followers of Southern Harvest may be interested in this Permaculture Design Course! There is a 20% discount for those who register before the end of January. For more information read on, or head to the booking link to register your interest.

The course is hosted by Lizzy Smith of WorkSmith Permaculture and Sam Hawker @GardenKitchenWitch’n, both Canberra region locals, with John Champagne of Brogo Permaculture, Cally Brennan of Canberra Permaculture Design and other Guest Educators.

We will offer a locally tailored experience to acquire design skills in Permaculture (of at least equivalence to the standard 72-hour Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) Course), led by a guild of Permaculture educators with extensive professional and lived experience of Permaculture – in design, strategies and methods, wellbeing and creating conditions for the good stuff to happen in the world. We believe that diversity is a strength.

The course content is about living systems design and developing design as a skill with Permaculture ethics and principles as a foundation and includes demonstrated application (a project).

What we cover:
– Beginning Permaculture
– The Cultivated Ecology
– Designing Systems
– Design for Sustainability, Productivity, Regeneration…
– Social Permaculture and Community Autonomy
– Design for the Future

You will see applied permaculture design on field trips to local properties. You will apply design skills to a project (on your own or in a group, for a community or land-based application) to demonstrate your understanding of the ethics and principles of permaculture. Other activities are included and will ask you to work collaboratively.

Upon completion of the course and design project, you will receive international recognition as a Permaculture Designer and be able to apply your new skills in your life and community.

Suitability of Content

The content of a Permaculture design course is powerfully motivating and practical and so needed in our world – you will be able to apply what you learn from Day 1.

The content delivery is aligned to adult learning principles so the course will suit interested youth from 16 years and adults of any age.  The group will likely include a diverse range of people which is welcomed.  Social events and site visits are part of the program.

Specific methods (e.g. land surveying, building, composting) may be included for demonstrations or at site visits.  You can get your hands dirty at times in voluntary activities.
