WINTER!

The season of frost kissed brassicas, sweet carrots, hearty veg, sunshiney citrus and cold climate salad greens. A misconception we often hear about our region is that it has a ‘short growing season’. Not true. Sure, we can’t grow tomatoes in July but we are still able to grow beautiful, nutritional and TASTY fruit and veg year round. And have you ever eaten a tomato in July? They’re kinda crappy.

Frost is actually a key ingredient in improving the flavour of many Winter vegetables. The frost changes the compounds found in veggies like brassicas, leaks, root veg and a few other hardy greens to create sugars – essentially a vegetable version of antifreeze – which makes them sweeter and more delicious to eat. A cool climate is not a hurdle but an opportunity to grow really great food!
