    Information:

Bent Shed Produce specialises in the different, unusual, and really local. Have you tried the native Australian mountain pepperberry? It’s hotter than black pepper, with a fabulous herby zing. Or what about roasted and ground wattleseed, giving your daily coffee a rich coffee, chocolate and hazelnut flavour? Lemon myrtle is “more lemony than lemon”, without the additional liquid, while aniseed myrtle brings a lovely liquorice flavour to sweet and savoury dishes. Then there’s warrigal greens - the Australian native spinach. It kept Captain Cook’s crew from dying of scurvy while they were wandering around Botany Bay. Use like English spinach but without turning into a sort of green sludge. And then there’s our rainbow-shelled eggs from our flocks of heritage pure-breed and farmyard-cross poultry (chicken, ducks, and guinea fowl). We raise our own birds, and occasionally can provide live poultry for those looking to bring the rare and unusual into their own yards. The next step is into meat production, so you can taste chicken the way your ancestors did; as a rare treat, with crispy skin and amazing flavour. Come and try something new with us!

    Information:

At Bungonia Creek Wines, Plants and Produce we like to keep busy. David (an ex Strategy Consultant) and Melissa (a Naturopath) retired from Sydney 6 years ago for a quieter lifestyle and have never been busier. We produce high quality wine, vigorous plants and organic produce by following sustainable permaculture and holistic management practices. This includes the implementation of aquaponics systems as a means of producing nutritious food using about 1% of the water for equivalent production in soil. We have recently implemented a Hugel Kulture bed and a wicking bed, both of which aim to use less water than conventional methods. We welcome visitors who wish to learn more about these techniques.

This boutique winery produces several varieties of wine: Sav Blanc, Rose, Merlot, Cab Sav, and our new addition – Shiraz. Our vines are now 20 years old and producing excellent grapes. All are hand pruned, hand picked and biodynamically sprayed during the season. All wines are available to taste at the stall each market day, and at our cellar door on Sundays. We love our wines and we hope you do too. Come and taste them at our stall.

    Information:

We started selling our beef direct to our customers about three years ago. Frankly, we were sick and tired of selling beautiful organic cattle to feedlots where they’d immediately be treated with a systemic worm medicine, vaccinated, hormone implanted and given medicated grain and hay to eat. We were at the mercy of a handful of buyers for big meat companies, and we had little control over the price we received. All our good work with the cattle seemed wasted, and we could hardly even pay the bills. Now we’re faced with a more enjoyable set of challenges, and work hand in hand with our customers who are now part of our farming business. And we believe in ethical food production too. The animals MUST be happy and healthy and the farm MUST be sustainable and ecologically sound. We will leave self-indulgent essays to others – and concentrate on trying to actually do it. Talk with us at the Farmers Market or come to a farm Field Day.
